FAQs

Students in the second year of the Engaged Humanities Initiative are eligible to earn up to $1,000 to attend lectures and events on and off campus.

What events or lectures are eligible?

  • The fall and spring Mellon Lectures in the Engaged Humanities (dates and times TBD).
  • Lectures or workshop meetings held at the Institute for the Humanities.
  • Events at The Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change (https://diversity.uic.edu/engagement/ccusc/)
  • Events at The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum (https://www.hullhousemuseum.org/)
  • Events at The Social Justice Initiative (https://sji.uic.edu) including the Pop-Up Just Art (PUJA) gallery on Halsted
  • Events at The Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy (IRRPP) (https://irrpp.uic.edu)
  • Events at Gallery 400 (https://gallery400.uic.edu)
  • Events or lectures off campus, including lectures and events associated with the Chicago Humanities Festiva
  • You can also choose to organize your event! Choose a book, a movie, or an issue, and organize a reading/showing/discussion, either on your own or with a friend or two. We can hold it at the Institute, or it can be an activity for the Humanities Living Learning Community in the new student housing/classroom building on Harrison. Just check in with us if this might be something you'd be interested in doing- we can help you schedule and organize.

After each event, students submit a reflection form
