Join
The EHI is open to freshmen and to transfer students. Students transferring to UIC from another institution can apply to join the program by filling out the form here.

Humanities
No ! You can participate in the EHI if you are majoring in a non-humanities field ; also, the EHI is open to students from all colleges at UIC, not just LAS

Research
The EHI is meant to guide students through the process of developing a research project and helping them navigate archives, choose internships, formulate a thesis, and write for a specific audience. Beginning in the sophomore year, students in the program attend workshops led by UIC faculty and staff that will help them with these topics and provide a supportive community for research and writing.

Sophomore
A form to indicate your interest in participating in the second-year seminars will be available here shortly.

Research
An application form will be available on this website; you’re advised to speak to the Director if you’re interested in continuing, and we’ll help you identify a project and mentor.

Grad School
The projects developed through the EHI are meant both to prepare students for graduate school, should they choose that path, and to allow students to explore other possibilities, such as community work.

Mentor
The EHI director and coordinator can help you choose a faculty mentor based on your interests and proposed project.

EHI Leave
Students may leave the EHI at any time; they will remain part of the community and a member of our email lists.

Research
Not at all ! Students can also obtain internships or research opportunities through their home departments, and there are many financial aid and fellowship opportunities for study abroad. Students can also apply for funding through LASURI, the Undergraduate Research Experience, Summer Research Opportunities Program, or the Chancellor’s Undergraduate Research Award.
